An investigation by the Carabinieri NAS in Treviso has uncovered multiple cases of aggravated embezzlement involving high-cost medicines taken from public healthcare facilities.

The investigation focused on healthcare structures belonging to AULSS 2 Marca Trevigiana and was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to protect pharmaceutical safety and prevent crimes against the national health service.

Investigators initially found that in a hospital pharmacy an employee responsible for preparing packages had been illegally taking medicines intended for internal distribution.

The drugs were then passed outside the facility with the help of two other colleagues from the same healthcare centre.

Among the medicines taken were several life-saving drugs that could generate very high profits on illegal resale markets.

The investigation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Treviso, also involved technical investigative activities. According to authorities, the inquiry made it possible to document numerous illegal sales of medicinal products to third parties.

During house searches carried out against four suspects—three employees of AULSS 2 Marca Trevigiana and a truck driver employed by a logistics company—investigators seized a large quantity of medicines marked “for hospital use” that were traced back to the health authority.

Authorities also identified additional unlawful conduct involving the improper use of personal badges to falsely register presence at work.

In total, 24 individuals have been reported to the judicial authorities for their alleged involvement in the case.
