The Sicilian Region is investing approximately €16 million in IRCCS ISMETT in Palermo to strengthen the region’s scientific and technological capabilities through Ri-Health, a research infrastructure focused on artificial intelligence and precision medicine.

“We continue to invest decisively in Sicilian research excellence,” says Regional President Renato Schifani, “because our island’s economic growth depends on innovation. Supporting international projects creates new opportunities for the region, attracts expertise, and makes Sicily increasingly competitive in high-tech sectors. ISMETT represents an enormous resource in the fields of healthcare and research, a growing enterprise that must be supported.”

Ri-Health has received a grant of €15,968,676, against a total project cost of €19,960,845. It was established through an agreement between ISMETT and the Ri.Med Foundation to enhance the research potential of the biomedical hub being developed in the Palermo metropolitan area, particularly in Carini, and to promote the exchange of know-how with the scientific community and technology transfer to local businesses.

The project aims to create an open and integrated system for precision medicine and artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, capable of attracting national and international researchers and companies.

“Through the ERDF programme, we are building an innovation ecosystem,” adds Edy Tamajo, Councillor for Productive Activities, “capable of connecting universities, research centres, the healthcare system, and

businesses. Ri-Health represents a strategic investment because it focuses on precision medicine and artificial intelligence, technologies destined to revolutionise prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
