France is making children’s health a top priority, enforcing strict medical check-ups and vaccination requirements to safeguard their well-being from birth to adolescence.
Starting from 2025, children may be barred from attending school if they have not received the required vaccinations on time.
Additionally, parents must ensure their children complete 20 state-mandated medical check-ups before the age of 16.
Key Points:
- 14 of these checks occur before the age of three, ensuring early monitoring of growth, motor skills, emotional development, and vaccinations.
- From January 1, 2025, one check will shift from early childhood to ages 7-16 to enhance long-term health tracking.
- Between 7-16 years old, children must have at least four additional mandatory check-ups.
- Doctors will now also screen for psychological disorders like anxiety or depression and provide preventive treatments for childhood illnesses.
Mandatory check-up timeline:
- Early years (0-6 years old): 14 check-ups, including at birth, 2nd week, monthly in the first year, and then yearly.
- Ages 7-16: Four required visits at 7 years, 8-9 years, 11-13 years, and a final check before 16.
These health checks are essential for school attendance and overall well-being. While parents must schedule them, additional visits with general practitioners or specialists are always possible.
