From 17–19 June, cities from across Europe will meet in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, for the WHO European Healthy Cities Network Annual Business Meeting and Technical Conference. The event will begin Phase VIII with the theme “Healthy Cities for Healthy Generations.”
The conference will also mark 40 years since the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, an important step in global public health.
Participants will hear from speakers including Kevin Fenton, Robert Lobanete and Seyi Akiwowo, together with city leaders and experts working to improve health in urban areas.

The conference will focus on how cities can help people live healthier lives, create fairer communities and support a better future for all generations.
Phase VIII is based on seven key ideas, known as the 7Ps. These focus on people and their health and well-being, and on creating safe and healthy places to live. They also highlight the importance of protecting the planet and involving communities in decisions that affect them.
At the same time, they support fair and inclusive growth, build safer and more connected societies, and help cities get ready for future challenges.
Together, these ideas aim to help cities become healthier, stronger and more sustainable places to live.
