The year 2027 will be significant for Lithuania because of its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as well as an important development for the country’s innovation sector. Traditionally held in Vilnius and organized by the Innovation Agency Lithuania, the region’s leading life sciences event, Life Sciences Baltics, will relocate to Kaunas next year and welcome the life sciences community on 27–28 April 2027.

The conference will focus on the high-potential topic of health data, highlighting its critical role in modern medicine and cross-sector collaboration.

Minister of Economy and Innovation Edvinas Grikšas emphasizes that the event, now being organized for the eighth time, has become not only a platform for partnerships between life sciences businesses and academia, but also a testament to Lithuania’s regional leadership in the sector. 

Lithuania is already establishing itself as a world class life sciences hub, and 2027, together with our Presidency of the Council of the European Union, provides a unique opportunity to showcase this potential even more broadly. The decision to focus the upcoming conference on the use of health data is no coincidence. Data is the foundation of the future economy and medical breakthroughs worldwide, and Lithuania’s ecosystem demonstrates exceptional potential in this field. I am confident that the solutions emerging from this conference will contribute to building a more sustainable, innovation-driven healthcare system not only in our country, but beyond its borders.

The conference theme directly reflects Lithuania’s strengths in healthcare, as confirmed by international assessments. 

According to the latest EU study, Digital Decade 2025: eHealth Indicator Study, Lithuania remains one of Europe’s leaders and trendsetters in digital health. 

Based on 2024 data, Lithuania achieved an overall eHealth maturity score of 95%, compared to the EU average of 83%. This performance has remained stable for the second consecutive year, with the country ranking among the top performers in 12 of the 13 assessed data categories. 

Notably, Lithuania also received the maximum score of 100% for ensuring accessibility for diverse population groups. All 11 categories of healthcare providers included in the study contribute relevant data to the national eHealth system, creating a strong foundation for further digital development. 

Monika Paulė, Director of Innovation Agency Lithuania, notes that the decision to move the conference to Kaunas reflects the strength and potential of the city’s and region’s academic, healthcare, and business ecosystem. Historically and strategically, Kaunas has been an integral part of Lithuania’s life sciences ecosystem, making the relocation a natural step in the context of Lithuania’s EU Council Presidency. 

The forum’s program will address the most pressing challenges facing life sciences today, as well as emerging trends in the medicine of the future. Experts will explore preparedness for future diseases and societal resilience, while discussing the transition from traditional problem-solving approaches to value-driven innovation. 

Particular attention will be devoted to data- and evidence-based medicine, gender and age inclusivity, and the quality of science communication. The program will also examine how strategic healthcare policies are translated into tangible outcomes and what benefits they generate for society. 

Our goal is for this forum to become the epicenter of life sciences discussions in the region and a catalyst for unlocking the real value of health data. We all understand that simply possessing information is no longer enough – the key challenge today is transforming it into evidence-based decisions that improve quality of life and drive national progress.
