Estonian medtech company Nanordica Medical secures €1.6 million to accelerate chronic wound healing

Around 100 million people worldwide suffer from chronic wounds that fail to heal properly. Among the most challenging conditions to treat are diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs).

Often referred to as a “silent killer,” DFUs have five-year mortality rates and treatment costs comparable to those of cancer. Within five years of diagnosis, 30.5% of DFU patients die.

For patients who undergo major amputations, more than half do not survive beyond five years.

Estonian MedTech company Nanordica Medical has successfully raised €1.6 million in funding to support the launch of its innovative nanotechnology-based wound dressing, designed to accelerate the healing of chronic wounds.

As one of the largest clinical trials in the field approaches completion, Nanordica is preparing to introduce its Premotiv® wound dressing to patients across Europe in 2026, followed by entry into the U.S. market in 2027.

Nanordica Medical is an Estonian medical technology company and a pioneer in advanced antibacterial nanotechnology for the prevention and treatment of topical bacterial infections.

The company is a spin-off from the National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics in Estonia, translating cutting-edge scientific research into innovative healthcare solutions.

Nanordica Medical was nominated as HealthTech of the Year 2025 at the Estonian Startup Awards.
