Eli Lilly signs AI drug discovery deal with Insilico Medicine worth up to $2.75bn

A new collaboration between Insilico Medicine and Eli Lilly and Company (Lilly) aims to accelerate the discovery and development of novel therapeutics using artificial intelligence across multiple disease areas.

Insilico Medicine has announced a global drug discovery and development agreement with Lilly, centred on the use of AI technologies to support research across a range of therapeutic fields.

The collaboration will use Insilico’s AI engine and its Pharma. AI platforms alongside Lilly’s clinical development capabilities and disease-area expertise. The companies will work together on multiple R&D programmes focused on targets selected by Lilly.

As part of the agreement, Lilly receives an exclusive worldwide licence to develop, manufacture and commercialise a portfolio of potentially best-in-class oral therapeutics that are currently in preclinical development for selected indications.

Under the terms of the agreement, Insilico will receive an upfront payment of $115 million and may be eligible for additional development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments, bringing the total potential value of the deal to around $2.75 billion. The agreement also includes tiered royalties on future product sales.
