For the growing number of Dutch residents spending extended periods in Spain while managing chronic health conditions, a new digital platform aims to simplify access to routine care.
Dutch company SYOD (Share Your Own Data) has introduced ombrio, a European digital health platform that allows users to monitor key health indicators from home and securely share the data with healthcare providers in both the Netherlands and Spain.
The platform is designed for people living with conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, COPD, asthma, or obesity, as well as older adults who require regular health monitoring. Instead of travelling back to the Netherlands for standard check-ups, users can measure values such as blood pressure, weight, or heart rhythm remotely and make the information directly available to their doctor.
According to the company, the approach is intended to reduce unnecessary travel, lower healthcare-related costs, and improve continuity of care for people dividing their time between countries.
How it works
Users take measurements at home using certified devices such as blood pressure monitors or smart scales. After giving one-time consent, the data is automatically and securely shared with their healthcare provider. The information is transmitted in encrypted form and integrated directly into the provider’s system, allowing healthcare professionals to monitor changes and respond quickly if needed.
The company states that users remain fully in control of their personal health data, with sharing only possible through explicit consent. Data processing and transmission are carried out in line with European data protection and data-sharing regulations.
