Bolt Food launches over-the-counter medicine deliveries in five Latvian cities

The food and retail delivery platform Bolt Food is introducing over-the-counter (OTC) medicine deliveries from a total of seven pharmacies in Riga, Jelgava, Tukums, Daugavpils and Sigulda. Residents will be able to access the medicines they need more quickly, precisely when they need them most, choosing from approximately 200 different products.

In Riga, orders can be placed with two 24-hour pharmacies, as well as a pharmacy in Ulbroka. In Jelgava, Tukums, Daugavpils and Sigulda, deliveries are available from one pharmacy in each city. Information about participating pharmacies can be found in the Pharmacy section of the Bolt Food app. In the future, Bolt Food plans to roll out over-the-counter medicine deliveries across all 14 Latvian cities where the platform currently operates.

The need for over-the-counter medicines can arise suddenly and unexpectedly, and when you or a member of your family falls ill, getting to a pharmacy can be very difficult or even impossible. It is precisely in these situations that the ability to order urgently needed medicines, while also receiving advice from a pharmacist without leaving home, provides a practical solution that helps people look after both their own health and that of their loved ones. I am delighted that we can make it easier for Bolt Food customers to take care of themselves and the people closest to them.

To ensure customers have access to information about available medicines, their effects and how to use them, anyone ordering over-the-counter medicines can receive a free consultation with a pharmacist by telephone or email. Customers who would like to speak to a pharmacist by phone can either call the pharmacy directly using the number provided in the app or request a call back from the pharmacist.

Deliveries of over-the-counter medicines are carried out in accordance with additional safety measures. Medicines are packed in opaque, securely sealed packaging. Couriers deliver these items separately from all other orders and are not permitted to collect or deliver any additional orders while transporting medicines to the customer. This means that essential medicines are delivered as a priority consignment and are not transported alongside any other goods, including food. In addition, all medicine deliveries are made exclusively by car.

To verify a customer’s age, users must authenticate themselves in the Bolt Food app using Smart-ID when placing an order. Furthermore, to ensure medicines are received only by the customer who placed the order, contact-free delivery is not available for over-the-counter medicines. Customers must meet the courier in person and present the PIN code generated in the app to receive their order. If the courier is unable to hand the order directly to the customer, it will be returned to the pharmacy.

Customers using the Bolt Food app can already order more than 3,000 cosmetic products, food supplements and medical supplies from 26 pharmacies across 14 Latvian cities. Latvia is the first Baltic country where over-the-counter medicines can be ordered via the Bolt Food app. Approximately 200 different products are currently available in this category, covering the most common customer needs.

The inappropriate use of medicines may be harmful to your health. Always read the package leaflet or the information provided on the packaging carefully before use. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
