The Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB), FC Barcelona’s global platform for sports innovation and knowledge management, has formalised a new strategic investment with the entry into the shareholding of Cold2Sport, a Catalan start-up specialising in thermal solutions applied to muscle and joint recovery.
The company counts among its promoters Isaac Cuenca, a former player trained at La Masia and member of the FC Barcelona first team.
Cold2Sport has developed a range of thermal products – including knee pads, ankle pads, versatile cold packs and shorts— that transfer controlled temperatures to the athlete’s or patient’s body within the range of between 8 ºC and 15 ºC, keeping them stably for more than an hour. The company’s patented technology allows for precise and sustained heat transfer, acting as a true thermal battery capable of keeping the temperature stable up to nine times longer than conventional ice.
This autonomy facilitates the integration of thermal therapy with active recovery processes, favoring a more efficient and functional application in sports and clinical contexts.
Within the framework of the agreement with FC Barcelona, Cold2Sport and BIHUB will work together on the co-development of new thermal products, as well as on the generation of scientific evidence to evaluate the impact of the technology on muscle and joint recovery after competition or intense exercise. This collaboration will also explore anti-inflammatory applications linked to clinical and postoperative processes.
At the Barça Innovation Hub, we work to identify and promote technologies capable of generating a real impact on sport and health. Cold2Sport represents this vision very well: a solution based on scientific knowledge, with a clear practical application and with the potential to improve the recovery of elite athletes and also of society in general. Cold2Sport was born in Barcelona in 2022 promoted by BiofreshTech and former professional player Isaac Cuenca. BiofreshTech is the holder of patents related to thermal storage, a technology that allows the stabilization and maintenance of specific temperatures with a high degree of autonomy according to the needs of each application.
This technological base allows Cold2Sport to develop thermal solutions adapted to the specific requirements of muscle and joint recovery in the fields of health and sport.
Currently, Cold2Sport is already present in the pharmacy and orthopaedic channels of Spain and Portugal and is starting its first international distribution agreements, while expanding its presence within the sports channel.
